Specialised German for architects and civil engineers
This course teaches basic vocabulary as well as grammar basics on selected topics and fields of expertise in the construction industry. This class is designed to improve your understanding of texts about building regulations, laws and official requirements in the construction sector. You will acquire technical German as well as professional action competence, which opens more chances on the German labour market.
As part of the funding program "FIT - Promoting Academic Success and Labour Market Integration of International Talents" of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), it is possible to apply for a financial grant towards the course fee.
- basic vocabulary from various subject areas, e.g: Building and construction methods, building materials, building physics, structural engineering
- basic language for various HOAI phases (design and approval planning), building application and building documents, building description
- topics concerning building law: building code, state building regulations, building law requirements and regulations such as DIN or Euro standards
- insight into technological construction site processes during construction work
- introduction to typical grammar of written German at a C1 level for a better understanding of building laws, regulations and standards: nominalisations, participles as adjectives, passive voice and its alternative forms etc.
- differences between written and spoken German
Certificate of attendence from the Bauhaus Weiterbildungsakademie Weimar e.V., Institute at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
The course is aimed at students and graduates of all fields of study in the construction industry, in particular architects and civil engineers whose native language is not German and who would like to improve their German for their professional practice.
